Adamson University Men’s Volleyball Team Defies Odds to Secure First Win in UAAP Season 85
Adamson University’s men’s volleyball team, which started the UAAP Season 85 tournament 0-6, broke through with a 3-0 sweep of previously winless University of the Philippines at Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday.

The Soaring Falcons got off to a great start, winning the first two sets and coming back from down 14-18 in the third to win the match and finish the first round strongly.
With a kill from outside the block, Evander Novillo evened the score at 21 in the third set. After Louis Gamban’s crucial attack error put Adamson up 23-22, Novillo won it with consecutive aces from the service line.
Seven attacks, two aces, and two blocks helped Novillo rack up 11 total points. Mark Coguimbal contributed nine points and three blocks, and he was joined in double figures by eight-point scorers Jude Aguilar and Joshua Magalaman.
We need this victory badly. “When I was serving, I tried to finish the game with my serve,” Novillo said in Filipino. Because if we play a longer rally, it will be more challenging for us. It’s going to be harder, and [UP] might even keep marching for longer.
And, “Coach George told us to believe and trust,” he added.
The Adamson Falcons finished the season 1-7 under first-year head coach George Pascua.
I gave them two pieces of advice: have faith and trust. They need only have faith in our system and trust in one another,” Pascua said. “Our past failures taught us a great deal, and they drove us to greater success this time around.”
Even though Angelo Lagando and Gamban scored nine and eight points, respectively, UP went winless in the opening round, finishing at a dismal 0-7.
Final Thoughts
The Adamson University men’s volleyball team’s win over the University of the Philippines in the UAAP Season 85 tournament is a testament to the power of perseverance and hard work. Despite starting the season with six straight losses, the Soaring Falcons never gave up and continued to work tirelessly towards their goal.

Their coach, George Pascua, gave them two valuable pieces of advice: to have faith in their system and trust in one another. The team took this to heart, and it showed in their performance on the court. Evander Novillo’s crucial plays in the final set were a reflection of the team’s determination and hunger for victory.
This win and the Adamson Falcons’ journey to it is worthy of an OKBET Review. It’s a reminder that success isn’t immediate, setbacks happen, but hard work, determination, and positivity can overcome obstacles. Congratulations on their victory that inspires us to never give up on our dreams.
